Tyson Is Recalling Chicken That Was Used In Premade Meals And Sold At Stores Like Circle K

Approximately 9 million pounds of ready-to-eat chicken products have been recalled by Tyson Foods. Although Tyson Foods issued the recall, some prepackaged meals including chicken may also be impacted by the recall.

A news release published by the Food Safety and Inspection Service explained two people were reported ill with listeriosis and the Centers for Disease Control found there was a link back to precooked chicken produced at Tyson Foods Inc. In response, Tyson Foods recalled about 8,955,296 pounds of products initially due to possible Listeria contamination.

Packages of the recalled foods are frozen, fully cooked chicken and were produced between December 26, 2020 and April 13, 2021. An extensive list of the recalled product codes and labels can be found on the USDA website. The latest update clarified that while Tyson announced a recall on their products, the affected chicken may be included in other prepackaged food items like wraps and salads, Circle K’s buffalo style wrap, Caesar salad, and country style chef salad are all potentially affected.

As always with these announcements, check your fridges and freezers for any of the impacted products and dispose of them immediately if you have them in your possession and do not consume. Listeria can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that can be particularly harmful to older adults, those who are immunocompromised, pregnant individuals, and newborns. Symptoms include fever, muscle aches, headache, confusion, convulsions, and more. The infection can be fully treated with antibiotics.
