NEWTOWN — The local community will obtain Thursday and Friday to celebrate the lifetime of longtime Sandy Hook Volunteer Fireplace & Rescue Main William Halstead.
Halstead served with the hearth section for more than 50 % a century. He joined the Sandy Hook Volunteer Hearth & Rescue Company in 1965 at age 16. In 1978, he was promoted to be the company’s main. He also served as Newtown’s director of unexpected emergency management and the fireplace marshal.
